Melaza: Weaving Stories / Tejiendo Historias, is being developed during 2018-2019 in collaboration with Puerto Rico-based artists. The creative residencies take place in Boston and Puerto Rico, with a world premiere of the final work on the Fall of 2019, in Boston and Puerto Rico.
Melaza is a dance theater piece that explores the colonial relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States. The second phase of the work (Tejiendo Historias / Weaving Stories) takes a closer look at the situation in Puerto Rico pre, during, and post Huracán María, seen from a decolonizing framework.
Danza Orgánica premiered the first iteration of Melaza I, on October 13-14, 2017, at Hibernian Hall, Roxbury MA. We dedicated the world premiere of Melaza to the survivors of Hurricane Maria.
